How it works
Dates and fees come from the Department of Basic Education’s schedule for the class of 2025, as reported by SAnews, the government news agency. The Second Chance details come from the DBE’s Second Chance page and its January 2026 statement. The Central Application Service is described in DHET’s guide.
The free Second Chance programme supports Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, Geography, History, English First Additional Language, Agricultural Sciences. Questions: SecondChance@dbe.gov.za.
We’ll update this page with the class of 2026 dates and fees as soon as the department announces them.

Questions
How much does a matric remark cost?
For the class of 2025, a remark cost R120 a subject, a recheck R30 a subject and viewing your script R230. The class of 2026 fees are announced with the results in January 2027.
What is the difference between a recheck and a remark?
A recheck makes sure every answer was marked and that the marks were added up correctly. A remark means the paper is marked again by a different marker. Your mark can go up or down.
When do remark results come out?
About two months after you apply. For the class of 2025 they were available from 13 March 2026, at the school or exam centre where you wrote.
I failed matric. Can I rewrite?
Yes. Register for the Department of Basic Education’s free Second Chance Matric Programme to rewrite or add subjects in the May/June exams. Last year registration closed on 6 February 2026. It’s free, so don’t pay anyone who offers to register you.
Can I still get into university if I didn’t apply in time?
Possibly. After results, many universities and TVET colleges list courses with space left, and the government’s Central Application Service helps you find a place. Act in January, as places fill fast.
