Who applies, and how

The guidance below comes from the current portal and its 2027 admissions circular, not a published 2028 timetable.

  • Grade R, Grade 1 and Grade 8: use Limpopo Online Admissions, with school or circuit walk-in help if needed.
  • Grades 2–7 and 9–12: collect the school’s form and use the school / circuit process, rather than the entry-grade online application.

Documents to prepare

The department’s published checklist; check for any 2028 updates.

  • Learner’s birth certificate, or the affidavit described in the circular if it is unavailable.
  • Immunisation card where applicable.
  • Transfer card from the previous school, or an affidavit explaining why it is missing; most recent school report.
  • The online portal also asks for certified parent / guardian ID and proof of residence.
  • For non-South African applicants, check the circular’s additional identity and immigration document list for your circumstances.

After you apply

Last published guidance. A 2028 timetable is not confirmed.

  1. Keep the application submission number. Track the result on the portal and through SMS or email updates.
  2. For entry grades, the circular describes an online appeal within 14 days of the outcome; internal-grade complaints go through the circuit office.
  3. The circular also describes a written appeal to the MEC within 14 days of the department’s decision.
Dates and details still to confirm
  • The circular’s online opening line is unclear against earlier reports, so only its 31 August 2026 closing date is used here; no opening date is guessed.
  • No 2028 placement or acceptance timetable has been confirmed.

Check the Grade R and Grade 1 age rules and use the grade calculator to plan your child’s school year.
