How it works

NWU adds up the points for your six best subjects. Life Orientation doesn’t count.

Points follow NWU’s own scale: 90–100% is 8 points, 80–89% is 7, 70–79% is 6, 60–69% is 5, 50–59% is 4, 40–49% is 3, 30–39% is 2 and below 30% is 1. The highest possible APS is 48.

You can apply with your Grade 11 or Grade 12 marks. You also need the language you’ll study in (English or Afrikaans) at 50% or more for most programmes.

Meeting the minimum doesn’t guarantee a place: many programmes have limited space or a selection process.

This calculator follows the method NWU publishes for 2027 entry, checked against its own documents: NWU 2027 Grade 12 prospectus · NWU: APS calculator · NWU: Undergraduate applications. It’s an estimate: the university’s own assessment of your final results decides admission.
