How it works

UCT uses a Faculty Points Score (FPS) made of your actual percentages, not APS points.

For Commerce, Engineering and the Built Environment, Humanities and Law, the FPS is English plus your best five other subjects, out of 600. Life Orientation isn’t counted.

For Science, it’s English, plus Mathematics and Physical Sciences counted twice, plus your best three other subjects, out of 800.

Health Sciences adds your three National Benchmark Test (NBT) percentages to the 600-point score, for a total out of 900. Most faculties also need NBTs.

Any subject under 40% scores 0, and subjects a programme requires must be among the six. South African applicants may also be considered on a Weighted Points Score, which UCT adjusts for educational disadvantage.

This calculator follows the method UCT publishes for 2027 entry, checked against its own documents: UCT 2027 Guidelines for Admission (NSC) · UCT 2027 Undergraduate Prospectus. It’s an estimate: the university’s own assessment of your final results decides admission.
